@ClaraListensprechen4

Yeah, I think 2024 was the last time the server was fully connected to the rest of the fediverse through follow type interconnections. When they changed domain names it left all of the follows hanging, still looking for the old address.

So it rebuilt your feeds using the latest data it had... which was from 2024.

Until those interconnections are fixed it won't receive much from the rest of the world. Unfollow/follow helps fix the connections, hopefully getting it back online and getting new data into the feeds.

@ChrisHolladay

It's the other way around.

Residents elected these ineffective Dems, and they should probably stop reelecting them.

Residents need to be pounding the Dems for failing... unless, well, they're getting what they voted for.

It's not about courage but about incentives. These Dems get reelected based on acting this way, so voters are rewarding them for it. That's their job, so they do it.

@jwcph well, what specific law is it violating?

We always need to be able to point at particular law so we can oppose illegal actions.

@blogdiva

A HUGE problem in the US (and elsewhere) is that we don't come to consensus about goals before we act, so government action is often really messed up, untargeted, inefficient, corrupt, etc.

This shows up very clearly when it comes to judicial stuff at all levels.

We don't come to consensus on whether the goal is deterrence, restitution, reformation, or outright punishment, so for generations we've been putting so many people in all sorts of counterproductive situations, generally completely unintentionally.

In this particular topic a significant proportion of the population outright DOES believe cruelty is the goal with an eye for an eye mindset. If that's what we really want to do, well, yay democracy. But we never actually have that discussion, so the goal isn't decided upon, so we're stuck in limbo, unable to fix these systems.

We need to have that debate and settle it honestly. We need to halt all action on it until we do.

@carnage4life

It's not a new question: with the pace of change in software development, what even is a senior developer?

Is the senior developer someone still supporting FORTRAN while the bulk of development has moved on to cloud focused platforms?

It may be that generations of developers are not so much junior vs senior but technology vs technology.

@ClaraListensprechen4 has it been stuck on "Your home feed is being prepared" for a long time? For me that only happens the first time I log in in a while, and it goes away after the backend has time to process.

Right now QOTO/cleverlibre seems to have been kind of disconnected from the network, maybe due to the namechange. Posts from the fediverse only show up after unsubscribe/resubscribe.

@ChrisMayLA6

How does the UK handle private pensions if the company providing the pension goes under?

That's been a real issue in the US.

@sortova sure, and thus they'd leave room in the market for someone to profit by offering gas that doesn't so adjust in price.

@alex_p_roe

Given with what we're working with these days, in a case like this I always assume the answer is that officials were actually following the law.

So often when Trump starts bashing what happens in other countries, as he's done with this bail, it's because he's acting without regard for the law and doesn't understand why anyone else follows their own laws.

@Nonilex

The problem is that no, it's not the case that everyone told not to start shit with .

If only that had been true!

The Fox News crowd that leads Trump around spent years telling him to start that shit, so he dutifully did.

We need to emphasize that Trump is a follower, not a leader, who does what he's told, especially by idiots who believe childish stories that resonate with him.

@TCatInReality

Frankly, I wonder if this is a matter of British English, but those two paragraphs sounded somewhat incoherent to my ears, as bad editing, so the report had deeper problems there.

"part of which" and "This is to accomidate" were not precise in the story they were telling leaving "which" and "This" without clear references.

I think the goal of the article was to report Burnham's announcement, not to provide any analysis, with only a halfhearted attempt at context to fill out word count.

@GuillaumeRossolini

Their messages are whatever they want to use their accounts to broadcast. Obviously journalists and economists will have different messages.

Whatever they have to say, that platform is an effective way of transmitting it, so they use it.
@collectifission

@TCatInReality seems like it does mention that side with the quotes from the guy emphasizing privatization.

@collectifission

It's no mystery. They're there because the platform generally meets their needs for getting their messages out broadly and effectively.

Regardless of downsides, the upsides still outweigh particularly due to network effects.

@nibble4bits

Oh, good idea.

Yeah, ActivityPub relies on instances kind of subscribing to each other, so I imagine remote instances don't know to send content to cleverlibre.org instead of qoto, but resubscribing to feeds would update that subscription.

@nibble4bits Oh hey, your reply landed in my notifications on the site! Some things seem to be working!

Glancing around I don't see any status announcements anywhere I can think to look.

Maybe pinging @freemo here could help?

@darulharb because there's more to the world than money.

Nobody lost money? So what?

@nibble4bits possibly.

When I log in it looks like a lot of my user settings from qoto came over, but the home page doesn't show any posts from the lists.

Hopefully this is in the process of regenerating.
