What are some tips on improving my experience?
Should I change my server from qoto.org?
Should I use a third party app? Currently I'm rocking the official app (I think)
Any other tips?
There are many great apps for Mastodon. Does the official one support the other timelines now? If you are on iOS, I recommend the open-source @IceCubesApp. However, I have heard that @mammoth is also great, and I think it has curated feeds.
I would think that changing your server would not be necessary. But if you find one with a specific theme or group of people that you care about, your local feed might be improved by a change.
I see you are on Android. There is @Tusky and @elk is a great web based mastodon client.
Above all, have a little patience. It won't be long and your feed will be full.
Also, just general advice -- block trolls without warning them, and don't engage. Life is too short. For everyone one block, you'll find 100 great follows and people to engage with.

@weberam2 hi Alex, follow and interact, that's all I guess... I couldn't try Mammoth unfortunately because my phone is a few years old, but I'm happy with Ice Cubes. No idea on servers, I've not tried many, Neuromatch works for me !
@weberam2 Follow people who people you follow follow. Follow people who seem vaguely interesting.
Without the algorithm, follows should be *much* cheaper (you can always unfollow later).
If you don't build up a good base of people to follow, this place will seem barren. But once you get that good list, it's just as lively and fun as anywhere else.
Also, consider setting up Lists based on hashtags you find interesting; that'll also help you to find new people to follow.
As for servers, QOTO is a good one. The only reason I'd seriously consider switching is if I someday launch my own instance.
