I'm divided between whether

A. it's essential for the fediverse to include a dedicated network of encrypted email server "instances" so I can be down with things like #deltachat gaining popularity

B. MIME is a severe mess and we need a #gemini style simplified protocol for email

whether i'm actually divided is mostly a joke

i think the second one would be much more doable given an "email fediverse" because with standard Free Software and rules the email instances could just query each other to see if they support the simpler protocol and send in that if they do, and silently fall back to MIME if the other one doesn't

after switching to only sending plaintext emails, i'm actually starting to hate MIME a whole lot less

I still get emails from other people with absolutely mile-long header sections and nasty html tag soup

but when I save my own emails they're actually very close to readable, and the way attachments are included in the files is not as bad as I initially thought. it's somewhat amazing something that appears so crude has worked out relatively okay after all these years

@Valenoern showing html e-mails in plain text reveals all the tracking garbage they include, no need for it raspberry pi foundation use mail chimp which employs that, so in effect they are tracking minors probably (anyone under 18)
