@icedquinn @newsbot Good point, but should there be more human oversight for the AI so it can be improved ?
Good point.Either way, changes are now coming and Facebook and others (even here) are going to feel those changes.
The Uk online harms bill or online safety bill (now confused as the media mention both) is coming as is other legislation.
.MPs and others have suffered abuse for far too long as people hid behind anonymity.
Like i said before we need to balance stoppting this but also protect those who need anonymity to do their job (activists for example) I fear that the latter may be sacrificed for the former.
The conversation on how to influence policy is ongoing on
@Hyolobrika @icedquinn @newsbot
What about others who are being abused online.
I agree, but they are going to act now. Weather we like it or not.
So if social media doesn't up their game, the MPs will force them to through new laws.
They want social media companies to act on anonymity for one. Which is bad news for activists in countries where they face prison, torture or death for speaking out or trying to.
@Hyolobrika @icedquinn @newsbot
We just need to ensure our freedoms are protected but those who seek to abuse / harm others are not allowed to do so.
Unless you are ok with people being in the case of the MP stabbed 17 times.
Not just MPs but doctors, nurses, ambulance staff, shop staff are all facing abuse, as re journalists. for just doing their job in very difficult circumstances.
Hence the conversations on social hub trying to provide evidence to law makers to cover all angles and side on this.
@Hyolobrika @icedquinn @newsbot
Agreed, the thing is our MPs have had enough of the abuse, hence the online harms /. safety bill.
What my suggestion was, on the fedi we need our own ID system, so we are SEEN to be taking action.
Problem is Facebook (for example) and fedi are both social media, but the way fedi work at the server level is vastly different, we understand how federation works but not everyone who makes the decisions does. Or they may have a mis understanding (for what ever reason)
So any laws will be targeted at social media.
I am sure as a fedi we can figure out a way that, one some servers you have to prove who you are, could be handy., I used this example on the forum a college / university sets up a student group, you have to prove you are a student of that uni to join., to do that you upload your student ID or show it to someone so only students from that institution can join.
That means the students CAN communicate but it also means if any students abuse others (even if they think their actions are harmless), the university can act if a complaint is made.
My argument for the fedi is that should perhaps be an optional feature,
We on the fedi have to agree to terms and conditions on instances or if we don't like it, set up our own and of course take responsibility for what happens.
