For several months, users of youtube-dl (including indirect users, for instance via mpv) have been experiencing bandwidth throttling purposefully imposed by Google:
github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl

Yet another reason to move to #PeerTube or plain old file self-hosting!

@civodul I can't either which is fine, I asked on here to see if anyone could.

Oh well, they don't seem very capable of responding via e-mails.

I'm pretty sure youtube-dl worked with peertube at some point, but AFAICT it doesn't any more :-(
@lxo @zleap
Since it started to get sued youtube-dl stopped updates.
But you can get the fork yt-dlp which works really well.
Sadly hosted on hithub https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp
upthread suggests the youtube-dl maintainer is back in business

@mangeurdenuage @lxo

The issue with them not allowing yt-download to work is that if I upload a video I should have the right to download it from youtube.

I upload to peertube anyway, at least I have control and there are no adverts before hand.

Just tested with latest versions, youtube-dl seems confused by peertube 4.0 and can’t download videos

yt-dlp is working fine with peertube urls
