Matt Mullenweg again notes #Tumblr growth post Musk takeover of Twitter.
“And that’s been really exciting to see this beautiful community and so much creativity thrive. It’s been fun to sort of like, as #Twitter has its turbulence, to see just droves of users, hundreds of thousands per day come over to Tumblr.”

@tchambers
We need hundreds of thousands of new #Mastondon users every day too!
I don't understand. If you're going to put the effort into switching to a new social media system, the only choice is #Mastodon
You are wasting your time on #Tumbler
@nicholasr later in the same podcast he recommitted his plans to add #ActivityPub and bring Tumblr into the Fediverse.
@tchambers Yes I am aware. Overall, this is positive because it enables more users to connect in the #Fediverse
#Mastodon is still superior to #Tumbler. #Tumbler #Twitter and #BigSocialMedia CANNOT replicate #OpenSource and #DeCentralized
@charlesroper @nicholasr @tchambers
Mastodon is already part of something much better, the fediverse includes many other services. for example Friendica
I think Misskey is a fork of Mastodon anyway but still uses ActivityPub
Hence it is preferred to use the term Fediverse, rather than Mastodon where possible.
@charlesroper @nicholasr @tchambers
I am confident the community here can build and improve what we have,
@charlesroper @zleap @tchambers Yes #Tumbler joining the #Fediverse is a net positive. It will improve connectivity, which is one of the basic positive aspects of any #SocialNetwork
@zleap @nicholasr @tchambers Agreed. My point is that another big name like Tumblr in addition to Mastodon is a huge proof of concept. People pay attention to Automattic. And Matt is just generally an interesting, think-different kind of CEO. He was just a kid with a blog and high ideals when I first became aware of him in 2003. I was a Textpattern user, but he wanted something specifically GPL, so WP was born. What he’s built from then is nothing short of epic.
