Website owners, be bold: make your cookies opt-in only. Have a banner tell people in an honest and straightforward manner what each option does. (Examples: "This loads animations", "This sends your browsing history to 300 advertising companies", "This makes your profile pic the shape of a pear", etc).

See how many opt-in! Hours of fun. Guaranteed good-time.

Or perhaps a better plan, don't use websites support your local highstreet instead. Providing that the installed CCTV is for catching criminals and not for tracking customers and what they buy. Free wifi should be for internet not for tracking customers either. We are people not products.

Of course if the CCTV highlights problems with shop layout then fine, you can use that data to re-arrange the shop so higher volume items are in a certain place.

@zleap @paulkruczynski Every time surveillance or other technologies has been deployed to catch law breakers it has been repurposed by others, usually the state, to monitor others.

This is the problem, CCTV is great for catching people so they can be prosecuted for shoplifting or similar but the technology is open to abuse, this means it gets a bad reputation and at times it is really needed.

On a positive note, home cctv built in to doorbells are really good for catching meteors or other interesting things like wildlife etc, whuch is really cool.
