Capitalism is insane for a lot of obvious reasons but one of them is that people genuinely believe essential and necessary work should be underpaid just because the ✨ vibes ✨ of the job aren’t cool enough

if a CEO doesn’t show up for 3 months, it’s called a sabbatical and business operates completely normally without issue. if the janitorial staff doesn’t show up for 3 months, the business can no longer function. so who should be getting paid more?

The janitors should be paid properly, in the absence of janitorial staff, the management are perfectly capable of using cleaning equipment, perhaps after a day or two of having to clear up, they will then make an effort to also treat the janitorial staff better, and of course pay them more.

I've never known a CEO of a company I worked for to go on sabbatical, but if they can get away with that they must have a lot of trust in the folks they've surrounded themselves with. I do know of a CEO who had a shower installed in his office to enable late nights.

I don't see how any of this is relevant to who should be paid more. Whoever negotiated a higher salary should get paid more, because that's what they agreed to work for. There is no "should" here beyond keep your word
