I'm going to join the voices of those asking others to ignore petty, non-personal crimes you might see. If people steal food, toiletries, or medical supplies, it's probably because they can't afford them. If people sleep in a car or public places or unused land or buildings, it's because they don't have better options.

More than half a century of unusually cruel capitalism has destroyed many people financially. Leave them alone; they're just trying to get by. Worry instead about rich criminals.

Many supermakets here, have, post checkot baskets for people to put in food, so it can be donated to the local food bank and make available to those who can't afford to buy in the first place. This is a great idea. As you said the reason people can't afford is due to the situation they are in. However in the UK we have people in well paid posts, nurses, teachers using food banks, which is a rediculous situation, meanwhile we have MPs tell people to get better jobs or suggest learning better financian management as a solution.
