One of the things it was/is/was most useful for was/is/was fast emergency updates, like tsunami warnings, volcanic eruptions and wildfires, etc.
Some info is linked to external automated observation sites, some info is advance warning series. They can't all be manual.
Just when these will be more needed than ever, Apartheid Clyde wrecks it.
