Hey #devs, what do you think of this discussion of scaling issues with Mastodon? Is this mostly a fair take, iyo?

@cgerrish The pessimist's take about Mastos' future. But I wish his headline was more like his closing. The Mastodon "we hoped for" may be doomed, but not the project itself. Calckey has almost none of those Ruby-based failings, and is reported to be far more efficient and cost-effective. Also, like other shade, it seems to presume the goal is Twitter replacement. Many see a more humble fedi role that avoids many of the pitfalls of Twitter.

@shoq @cgerrish @davidslifka @elipariser Yeah, that’s the biggest problem I have with any of these overarching analyses of Mastodon/Fediverse — not what “we hoped for”? Who’s we?

I don’t think the people on this platform are united in one common goal— a lot of people have very different goals, and that’s a *good* thing because it will lead to more innovation

Agreed, instances on fedi will reflect the interests, needs of users, but the fediverse / activity pub part of it will help all instances / services communicate.
