"Biden ordered flags flown at half-staff... in recognition of the shooting victims...

he expressed condolences for the victims and called on #Republican members of Congress to support a bill banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, among other changes to gun laws.

“We need more action, faster to save lives,” he said. “Too many families have empty chairs at their dinner tables.”"

Assuming im the US you can address the gun issue, how do you then tackle the far right or similar hate groups without them arguing doing so infringes on the first amendment?

From Wikipedia

"The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prevents the government from making laws that regulate an establishment of religion, or that prohibit the free exercise of religion, or abridge the freedom of speech, the freedom of the press, the freedom of assembly, or the right to petition the government for redress of grievances. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights.

I know the UK we have the 'prevent' strategy, this does not kick in if your behaviour suggests you are being drawn in to far right thinking, if I understand it, it kicks in if your words turn in to actions or threats or intent of action.

I am not sure how something like this would work in the US, as prevent is also designed to re-direct people to more positive activities. So for young people this could be youth groups that are run by appropriate people rather than some shady group of adults who just see you as someone to carry out their actions and groom you to do so.

I get the impression from prevent training that what leads to people being drawn in to this is they are disinfranchised with education or similar, feel worthless, and family may not be supportive, so they feel very down and worthless, esp if family has high expectations which they are not living up to. So low self esteem or self worth is picked up by some groups, and they make you feel worth something, then draw you in.

We need to stop people from being drawn in to negative thinking, of course that has exploded since the rise of social media, and mental health issues have also gone up too.

Seems the US may have a long long way to go, as does the UK and other countries, just that most don't have easy access to military grade weapons to add to the issue.
