Sexual predator or US President? Why choose when you can have both?
Perhaps this ties in with the BBC report about children as young as 8 being exposed to porn online and the negative effect this is causing. As a society we really do need to get a grip on this.
If behaviour of 8 year olds is changing as a result, then this may explain how people treat others, without adults to set and enforce appropriate boundaries, kids will look elsewhere for how to behave.
In the absense of positive alternatives Trump is a strong character, as is Andrew Tate et al so people will gravitate towards them as role models.
Stop using social networks as a free child minding service and start to actually PARENT your children.
No quick fix solutions, but I don't see why social media networks should (which includes fedi) be the target of blame when the issues are clearly also elsewhere in the offline world.

And yet this is the generation people keep saying know more about technology than their predecessors. I agree most youth also can't focus on something for very long.

Yes, this issue has been festering for years, we have reaped what we sowed decades ago, there was a time when a childs behaviour reflected on the parenting, it would have been highly humiliating to many parents back then if their kids behaved even a 1/10th as many do in 2023.
Progress, more like a massive backwards step.
To be fair many do a good job, and many succeed but those people pay the price in terms of being victims of how others behave.
@zleap @aral This has little to do with sex alone, this has everything to do with abuse of power (physical, financial, political) and being above the law. This is much more systemic.
People vote(d) for the idea that if someone like Trump can be in power, they will/can get away with all sorts of abuse as well (from sexual abuse, over racism to financial fraud).
