Judging by coverage of the latest rail strikes, the government thinks rail strikes ought never disrupt rail travel. It‘s much the same as their attitude to peaceful protest - they think it ought to be forbidden if it mildly inconveniences or irritates anyone. Citizens, please only protest silently, at home, between the hours of 2-3pm. You may apply to protest by sending a form to the police 2 years in advance & enclosing a fee. Your protest will be placed on your record. #ukpolitics

On a sligtly different note, but on the topic of protests, are there any stats as to how effective the internet blackout protests are. The ones where we put a banner on our website landing page.

@zleap - sorry, I don‘t really know. Whilst I do work on protests, most of that work is on the ethical status of different forms of illegal protest rather than empirical work on effectiveness. I‘d guess that Erica Chenoweth's research might offer some clue, but that‘s really a stab in the dark, sorry.

No problem, just asking.

It could be an option though. However rather than just trying to tell people to stop using oil, we could try the approach of suggesting alternatives, or for the govermennt to get on with building the infrastructure to allow renewables to connect to the power grid.

Here in Torbay we are all ready to go, we are building a solar farm, only thanks to the delays in other infrastructure it can't be connected to the power grid, and may not happen for another 5 years.

Totally rediculous, we should be have been building this infrastructure years agom and recruiting people (of any age) t help do so.
