When are we going to stop wasting resources to make stupid shit?

"About 138m single-use vapes are sold in the UK each year, containing enough lithium for about 1,200 electric vehicle batteries."

I agree, there needs to be proper recepticles to collect them, the issue with that could be that as the Lithium is flammable then that coud cause more fires.

Simple plan is to BAN them, like we should do with single use plastics, (cutlery for example). Poundland and others now sell cutlery made from wood. Granted I have a plastic spork I picked from an army stand I think. This is a spoon at one end, and fork with serated edge at the other. It is hard plastic so lasts longer (these to me are fine).

You can get metal straws, which can be washed, (you even get a little brush for this purpose.

Just sell vapes that are re-useable. There was a plan to have a bottle deposit scheme, so perhaps with vapes, something similar, the deposit could be £1 which you get back in cash or money off your next vape kit (I don't know what you get as I don't smoke)

All our government do is talk about these schemes, you don't see them rolled out, I think we could in a lot of cases come up with a plan + consulation, implement plan with the view of reviewing after six months / year, after which changes are made if needed, then after that review every year to make sure the plan still works or to implement further ideas.

Interesting paper (shared here, well the link to) about scientists have now found a way to make it easier to id plastic type before recycling, or I think they were perhaps looking at mixed plastic polymers.
