Fully agree, we can't keep relying on the US / Asia for this, we risk being at the mercy of export rules too.
So a long term plan is needed, where we build fabrication facilities, but also ramp up education, so that the next generation know what skills are needed and education is teaching the foundations of those skills.
This should be whole life, so extraction of minerals / elements needed, processing, fabrication, building devices, through to recycling of those devices at the end of life and re-use, so a full rethinking on how we recycle technolgy too (more high skills and more jobs there)
We also need to retrain adults so they can upskill for this workforce, but this is meant to be a world of equlity so stop making stuff for 'young people' only, we need a lot of people to pull this off and a whole new mindset
We seem to have a lot of problems in schools, disengatement, more home schooling (lots of reasons behind that) so something HAS to happen, so more people are not left behind.
With the rise of AI putting some jobs at risk we have to be able to adapt quickly.
Not only do we need to build the workforce, we NEED to retain with proper salaries, coupled with robust expectations. Perhaps we also need to look at the 'potential' of people not just if their application ticks boxes.
We can do this,
