"That runs contrary to claims made by Texas officials that the regulations would kill jobs"
if I understand things from posts on Mastodon, Texas is a Red, Republican state. This could explain the Officals response that this would kill jobs.
So why such low voter turnout, one reason in the UK is people who are disenfranchised with the system, something that is much harder to overcome.

IDK why so many Americans don't do their civic duty and vote nor do I know why so many of them refuse to stop burning fossil fuels despite our #ClimateCrisis. If I could nail it down in a microblog response I'd already be implementing actions to reverse it.
Perhaps they just feel that they are not being listened to, by either side, so don't see the point?
@zleap @insideclimatenews I don't understand how Americans could see things like school shootings, lack of #ClimateAction, and abortion rights being rescinded and not see the need for them to vote, but our education system seems to have dropped the ball on critical thinking skills perhaps.

Texas is a purple state, but our country's compromise between slavers in the south and the populated colonies in the north ended up creating a tradition that acreage gets as much or more voting rights than do people in our legislatures.
It doesn't help that only 5-10% of the population votes in the primaries there where the political candidates are chosen.
Anyways, we need to reform, but it will take massive voter turnout.
