As I work in schools and need to be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. In the light of what is going on with twitter (and this article generally) do you think it is Ok to ask employers (schools) who use Twitter how they justify using a right wing, NAZI and LGBTQ phobic cesspit, and still claim to be committed to safeguarding.
Afterall they do social media searches on applicants,
I think if a few saw my comments here regarding the Catholic church, they woiuld have a hard time making me justify my comment, without me counter asking them if they condone the covering up of sexual abuse by the church.
Background checks go both ways.
@zleap as twitter becomes more similar to a partisan news platform like Fox news I think more schools will choose to walk away. But as long as twitter is a place where tens of millions of pupils are active it'll be hard for schools to totally disengage.
I am not sure what the situation is in the UK i thought a lot of kids used tik-t0k or instagram
@zleap most probably do, yes.
In theory Safeguarding should come first, if a platform is going to put kids at risk, schools should just stop using it and explain why.
So to carry on using a platform that is used by the right wing, and hate lobbies just puts kids at risk of being radicalised. Esp at around 12/13 when they are finding their place in the world and are easily influenced by others.
There is Zero hope in that case.
I've not seen UK teenagers use Twitter for a decade or more, and the bulk of them seemed to get bored of it fairly quickly as it didn't provide as much instant gratification. It /might/ be used by a school for marketing but even that is less common nowadays (they would likely use Facebook as thats where many parents are) TikTok and Snapchat are more popular with teens and young adults nowadays..
@zleap schools will email 3,000 parents a warning about something that never happens just because one of the teachers saw a post about it on Facebook.
