'We don't know what we don't know!'

A supermassive black hole discovered at the heart of an ancient galaxy is five times larger than expected for the number of stars it contains, astronomers say.

Researchers spotted the immense black hole in a galaxy known as GS-9209 that lies 25bn light-years from Earth, making it one of the most distant to have been observed and recorded.

Hang on

If this is 25bn light-years from Earth, then the light has taken 25bn years to reach us, but if the universe is only 13.787 billion years old (cite, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_t) how doe this work out.?

Or am I not getting something here.

@zleap as I try to explain it, when the big bang happened, space expanded in all directions, so 25 billion light years is us on this side looking at the space in the opposite direction? I think.. Shares an aspirin with you.
