I'm sorting through the historical archives. Hundreds of years old, these electronic music 'records' have been dated to the early 21st century...

These look like music CDs, no matter how hard you argue that digitial / streaming is better, at least with a physical cd it can stay on my shelf and played when / where I want without the risk of the copy right owner deciding I can't play it any more and removing from my collection, if that mp3 provider falls out with amazon for example amazon can, at the owners demand, delete from my collection.

Owning a physical item, is different from owning a digital only copy, the right to play a digital only lies with the owner of that digital file, the person just seems to buy the right (at the time) to play it.

Could also explain why vinyl sales have shot up recently.

The same goes for physical books, if you take a physical book set or wrtten decades ago with language from the time, the owner can change he book and stop sales of the old version, probably delete from collection forcing you to rebuy.
