Not surprising that today's New York Times article about the singularity launders bullshit for big tech with just enough skepticism for plausible deniability

More impressive: the article quotes 15 different people.

Sundar Pichai
Reid Hoffman
Bill Gates
Elon Musk
Sam Altman
Baldur Bjarnason
John von Neumann
Irving John Good
Hans Moravec
Ray Kurzweil
Rodney Brooks
Jerry Kaplan
Ryan Schaeffer
Eric Schmidt
Charlies Stross

Yes, every single one of them is a man.

What is singularity, sorry I am from England, we use English not this sort of jibberish. It is worst then 'unscheduled rapid disassembly' which Musks lot used to descript the fact the rocket blew up.

@wryanfisher @ct_bergstrom

Good point, but not everyone sees it as a joke, I get the impression some see it as a pathetic attempt to look clever. Musk is a joke as it is.

IIRC a parachute was once refered to as a vertically deployed personnel decelerator, I think it got jumped on by the plain English lobby to try and get people to go back to using simple English rather than looking clever.

IT people are not much better, power cycle = Turn off and on again.

@zleap @ct_bergstrom RUD is more popular than "it exploded" or "it started to break and then failed" because it doesn't assume cause or other unknown factors. It's a wide spread term, similar to "directed flight into terrain" or DFT. That is not a joke it's what the FAA uses to describe what happened to airplanes that crashed due to operator error.

I really don't see how this has anything to do with a specific person not meeting your quality standards. Or why someone using a common term is "trying to sound clever".
