2050 will probably be too late. Back in 1963, (or maybe 62) JFK set the US a challenge to get to the moon and back before the decade is out. So if we set this challenge deadline for 2030, it is perfectly doable with the right drive, desire and investment.
I fully understand that point, I jusf feel we are not going fast enough, too many people in government with wrong people slipping stuff in to back pockets.
I watch the BBC news and the climate news is bleak, I read articles here and the reality is about 10x bleaker. I don't dwell on this too much, as there is no point, but at least we can discuss rationally and critically.
It doesn't matter how important it is. The fundamental problem is that it cannot be done. The first step is just accepting this fact as reality.
And even if there were a way of solving it in a short amount of time, it would simply not resemble the strategies endorsed by any environmentalist group. That is because most environmentalists are not serious people, and are basically engaging in wishful thinking. We would have to switch the entire movement to something that focuses on nuclear power, mass transit, urban redesign, as well as shifting to focusing on industrial policy and not attacking personal behavior. The last of which has an interesting parallel to anti-obesity campaigns, which often devolve into personal attacks.
Ultimately, our entire understanding of the problem must change. Once you grasp the nature of the dilemma, you will move away from looking at fantastical plans that you often hear. In particular, the focus will shift to ideas that provide long-term solutions to the problem, not short-term "fix it now" ideas which are unlikely to work despite being publicly popular. This also means accepting more painful compromises. Ideas like geoengineering, which is often seen as a dirty word, is become more and more unavoidable. More effort needs to go into mitigation strategies like drought and flood prevention tactics, rather than pretending that solutions to climate change can happen fast enough.
So to add to my previous response, UK MPs clearly just don't get it at all.

You need to start somewhere. Also, no one is going to solve climate change by 2030. Almost certainly, none of the 2050 goals will happen either. Reality is what it is.
