I think that anyone is teachable and able to learn, they just need the right environment to learn in, the right teacher and support in place anyone can or should be able to thrive.

The problem is when you have a class of 30 children of very mixed ability it seems that it is too easy for some to just fall behind.

Yes, it is more complex than that, but if a teacher gives up why should the child bother?
