This was a common in the UK a few years ago, peole used the term to use the word 'gay' to be it is rubbish or not very good, cool etc. However the UK moved on from that. I agree and would add the person using that language needs to understand not everyone understands their meaning or context and it can be misconstrued or interpreted, the onus should be on the person using that language to explain their meaning.

Of course if you are listening to older music, from say 50s / 60's then the meaning of 'gay' may mean something like happy,
