My politics exists in the tension of knowing the wealthy ruling elite are shitty and do their best to control everything and knowing a lot of ordinary and even poor people are also shitty and do their best to actively make life worse for everyone.
Like, mostly straight white people, obviously, but still.
Oh, and the people we depend on to fix things? Also often shitty.
Like, I wish I could believe there were 100 corporate super villains and everything would be fine if we just took them out.
And then dismantle their massive influence and propaganda networks.
And then dismantle the systems they put in place to make us fight each other for scraps.
And then...
And then...
And then there would still be a bunch of shitty people left over for us to contend with.
I like to believe people are, on the whole, mostly okay and are kind if they know you personally or otherwise feel some sort of affinity with you.
But I worry that even the okay people will just sit back and watch while others are hurt because they don't rise to that level of connection.
I worry that a lot of people's kindness is passive. And I don't know what to do about that.
Sadly a lot of people don't want to get involved in case they end up as the next target, and end up victims of a violent assault. This has happened to people who try to help say person A being attacked by person B and end up being assaulted by person B.
This is an issue we all face, do we get involved and risk more problems down the line, homeowners have been beaten up for simple asking people who on THEIR property to stop doing something. We just do not know what lurkes under that outer exterioir sometimes. This is the world that has been built on where the criminal element have the upper hand through fear and intimidation of others.
There is no easy solution.
