As a matter of urgency, perhaps ALL free software operating systems need some sort of kill switch for the system microphone, so it can be turned off at the kernel level. Then enabled by approved software ONLY.

Perhaps also a system where any attempt by a 3rd party to circumvent that system is reported to ther system owner, so it can either be investigated or reported to the appropriate authorities.
