“EVs have big batteries. They should come equipped to power homes and the grid in emergencies”

This was a selling point of EVs at the very beginning along with a smarter, integrated power grid. What happened to that? apple.news/AdJzSDjJgRYuOn7YGLv

Given that these batteries use Lithium, would this be wise in the case of fire and or flood. ?

@zleap Not sure what difference that makes in terms of supplying power to a house — if the fire or flood is gonna destroy the battery that’s gonna happen whether the car is supplying power or not.

Sorry I mis interpreted, I thought you meant that we should install these batteries, but bigger in homes.

But yea good point, can you power an inverter from a EV car battery in the same way as you can with a normal petrol / diesel / gasoline engine and lead / acid battery.

@zleap You can in “the same way” because EVs also have 12V batteries that are kept charged by the main fuel; but what we really want is to tap the high voltage and amps of the main battery to run an entire house. That’s really the key. And I don’t think there is any technical reason, it’s just a question of getting corporate entities to allow and enable it.
