Surely with any Fedi service you and your data are at the mercy of either the person or persons hosting the service and or instance youy are using, they are also at the mercy of the people who own the hardware it is hosted on.
Even self hosting carries the risk of hardware failure and data loss, however that it mitigated with backups I guess.
The main difference is that most people would give their user base some sort of warning, this twitter data purge seems to be out of the blue with zero warning, but that is corporates for you.
There IS no cloud, just someone elses computer, if we also take cloud to be social network storage of media files such as pictures / video.
