A prison officer who ran a fitness club for #fascists has been jailed for eight years for possessing a #WhiteSupremacist "murder manual".

#AshleyPodsiadSharp, from #Barnsley, kept the handbook - containing detailed advice on how to kill people in a #RaceWar - in an encrypted hard drive.

He was convicted at trial of possessing a document likely to be useful in preparing an act of #terrorism.

@zleap one of two things, imo.
Either the background checks were highly inadequate, hinting at a systemic problem...

Or..
The person who approved the background check is one of them, hinting at a corruption problem.

Either way, it isn't good

@iuculano @zleap In my lifetime, I've had both Enhanced DBS background checks (required to work in health/social care) and before that one for the public service (which appeared to go back as far as my primary school days). DBS only checks for (fairly recent) criminal records (minor bits of drugs-related bother I got into as a raver had already expired), for the public sector one I just had to sign some declaration I wasn't part of any extremist group, I'm not sure if it was checked at all >>

@vfrmedia @iuculano

For education we are subject to DBS checks and as part of that are checked against the child barred list, and apparently other checks, including online checks.

The system is only as good as the records show,.
