A prison officer who ran a fitness club for #fascists has been jailed for eight years for possessing a #WhiteSupremacist "murder manual".

#AshleyPodsiadSharp, from #Barnsley, kept the handbook - containing detailed advice on how to kill people in a #RaceWar - in an encrypted hard drive.

He was convicted at trial of possessing a document likely to be useful in preparing an act of #terrorism.

@zleap one of two things, imo.
Either the background checks were highly inadequate, hinting at a systemic problem...

Or..
The person who approved the background check is one of them, hinting at a corruption problem.

Either way, it isn't good

@iuculano @zleap In my lifetime, I've had both Enhanced DBS background checks (required to work in health/social care) and before that one for the public service (which appeared to go back as far as my primary school days). DBS only checks for (fairly recent) criminal records (minor bits of drugs-related bother I got into as a raver had already expired), for the public sector one I just had to sign some declaration I wasn't part of any extremist group, I'm not sure if it was checked at all >>

@iuculano @zleap

if someone with far-right or other extremist views doesn't come to notice of the Police, nor openly marches about at fash rallies in public (or is involved in sportsball hooliganism or general street brawling) and keeps quiet about their political beliefs if questioned as part of a job interview or security vetting, they are very likely to slip below the radar...

@vfrmedia @iuculano

We can set privacy here so posts are not searchable, this works well as a thread or part thereof doe not tell the story of the thread, seeing one part of it, and making a judgement is hardly professional

I tried to do a search on myself using ddg and google, I found my linkedIn profile, which is abandoned due to the fact I see LinkedIn as a waste of time, and full of adverts and self promotion, so don't bother with it. It iis also so slow I can't be bothered either.

That showed up on a search, I changed the privacy setting so it would not, (as the profile is out of date anyway)

I am not here because I want to hide my activity, I am here because I don't like Mainstream social media, their data collection / sale, advertising and unethical behaviours.

@iuculano @zleap

I found an article mentioning the fash "sports club", it wasn't exactly hidden and there is even an (abandoned/unused) Twitter/X profile and another on Gab (which I didn't look at) describing it as a "nationalist sports club", both easily discoverable from search engines..

@vfrmedia @zleap this, in my opinion, definitely reflects poorly on the background check

@iuculano @vfrmedia

Indeed

We havce seen this with social services, serious case review, points finger / blame at heads of children services, they resign and get a job at another location.

As they resigned and not sacked nothing shows up on previous employer checks, however documentedf who was in charge.

Same person, new authority and errors are made again and again.

@zleap @vfrmedia

...thereby strongly suggesting it's a systemic problem

Follow

@iuculano @vfrmedia

Those at the top never seem to lose their jobs and nothing is then in place to stop them getting similar jobs elsewhere.

You only need to look at the fact we have just found out some schools are unsafe. This is going to cause serious disruption.

So kids starting new school are going to be anxious as it is, those with SEND more so.

No wonder more parents home school which as we have discussed on here about that can lead to more problems and safeguarding issues in some cases.
