There's a special place in hell for the manufacturers of packaging. Especially the kind of impenetrable packaging around new smoke detectors, which comprises a heavy duty plastic seemingly welded into a heavy duty card, and so tightly moulded to the contents that you risk damaging it with an unsteady use of a box cutter. Not to mention damage to self (which thankfully did not happen, but could well have).

Indeed, I agree, I have bought items such as a multitool to get in to this sort of packaging, only to find the multitool is actually in the very same type of packaging. So we can't win.
