These riots are apparnetly linked or have elements that are linked to far right, the far right are known for their anti immigration stance, so there may be a link, within their motivation, the far right don't need that much of an exucse to flare up anti immigration views.
So he May have a point. What has happened in Holland needs to serve as a warning to other countries though, something is going wrong, social media is at the very centre of it, hatred, racism and other discriminationatory conent is allowed to thrive.
Social media companies are NOT going to do anything until either fines, sanctions or prison terms are handed to the executive level down to the janators (who, granted janators have nothing to do with the content moderation) , but won't appreciate being thrown in to the same boat as their executives, punished while their billionaire employers get off freely with a smirk on their faces.
Social media is a great tool, it can bring those entering this country in touch with help and support, but also be used as a tool to exploit people (trafficking) and empower people whos views are very anti immigration.
Countries NEED immgration to fill highly skilled jobs for one example. If these rioters were in those highly skilled jobs they would probably not be rioting as they would be part of very diverse communities of people (like we are here on Mastodon).
I think his article in todays mail proves your point
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12787663/BORIS-JOHNSON-Heres-cut-immigration.html
If we raise the income needed for a visa to £40,000 that is going to impact on the NHS for a start.
@zleap I don't know if you've got access to the full article here but what Johnson is doing is deliberately exaggerating the anti-immigrant feeling in Ireland to justify cracking down on immigrants in the UK and using that crackdown to try to convince people Brexit was a good idea. He's making excuses for the fascists who caused the violence here on Thursday night and giving them legitimacy.
We know the rise of fascism is a problem here, we don't need a failed UK PM adding fuel to the fire.
