Germans have the partial excuse that nobody could have predicted Hitler's genocide, and world war... so what's your excuse, America?

@yasman

If I understand things correctly, after WWII most countries banned things related to Nazi Germany so those who still tried to follow Nazi ideas had less of an opportunity to express their views. What also happened is people were EDUCATED as to what had happened during the holocaust so it would 'never happen again'.

In the USA, the first amendment seems to have been used to as a way for the racists etc to hide behind free speech and spread their views to others.

The internet provides both an opportunity to educate OR for one group to radicalise another group of people or individuals. Add to that we no longer challenge certain behaviours, some views are never properly challenged at an early stage.

@zleap @yasman Germany had the Nuremberg Trials to purge fascism. Some of those fascists escaped though with the help of groups in the Catholic Church and/or Franco's fascist government in Spain. But in places like Italy, France and The Netherlands they pretended the facists were an anomaly and everybody still alive was a freedom fighter and besides, they had to rebuild and stop the Soviets, while fascists there went underground. Today neofascists are ascendant in particularly in these countries

Pope Pluis and his complicity in the Holocaust is well documented and known about so the fact the church supported this makes sense,

I am sure this is something they would rather forget and pretend did not / does not happen,, same as for child abuse.
