@stux We need a good response to anyone who makes some claim that Trump invented his own Social network, something that is courteous, but robust enough to put them in their place.

Mastodon's Founder Says Trump's New Social Network Is Just Mastodon
'Truth Social', which will launch officially later in the year, is seemingly using Mastodon's codebase without credit.
Former President Donald Trump’s new social network ’Truth Social’ is seemingly a thinly disguised fork of popular social network codebase Mastodon.
Its terms also say that “all source code” of Truth Social is proprietary. That might run afoul of Mastodon’s own license.
“The main thing is that Mastodon is free software, released under the AGPLv3 license, so anyone can use it—provided they comply with the license. The main part of the license is making the source code and any modifications to it available to the public,” Rochko told Motherboard. With Truth Social saying that its code is proprietary “that would be a problem, as that would indicate a license violation,” Rochko added.

We tend to think the same thing about facebook, only there is far more evidence of abuse on facebook, and the fact that facebook is denying, I would like to see what this new whstleblower is going to come up with.

The only thing I have heard from 1 person that Wil wheaton (who played Wesley) on Star trek came on Mastodon and was subjected to abuse, that is the only negative from so called normies. So far I have seen little evidence of bullying,
People believe anything they want, if they want to find something that is racist, will go look and find the slightest thing that could be seen or interpreted as racist, because they want to find something to justify their opinions.
We have excellent blocking tools on here.

@thor @freundTech @abloo @dashie @piggo some clown set up a mastodon instance and claimed it was trumps and because nobody on twitter fact checks anything it just spread like wildfire. that’s not his site and i would highly recommend not signing up to it
Lets just keep an eye on developments, perhaps give them the benefit of the doubt and deal with them as an when.
Just remember the online harms bll may simply compel us to block the.
In the mean time we need to be prepared to be robust if people judge people here on that one platform content.
We can give them a chance, If we don't like what they post we can at l east block the while thing from our accounts or at instance level.
Problem is the media will end up reporting that this IS mastodon and end up damaging the reputation of everyone here based on their reading one or two posts on one instance.
We had better be ready to fight back and tell people to get their facts right.
