as you can clearly see, Omicron is so terrible that South Africa has lost the ability to count the dead.

@apropos

I am not sure what the panic is about, so far the death rate from Omicron has been low, the Uk still reports deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid test, so you can die from a heart attack and it seems to be recorded as Covid (which from a science viewpoint is just ridiculous)

If Omicron is a varient of the previous strains then surely those with Underlying health conditions are also more at risk of death, but the number with other health conditions are never really mentioned either.

Meanwhile the UK hospitality industry is facing a huge drop in income at the key time of year when they make money that helps them through the year.

I am pro vaccine (my choice), but I am against all this scaremongering, confusing data

Before comments re vaccines I respect that others may not want to be vaccinated for a range of reasons.

This is the issue with filtering, for most cases it works in some cases it gets in the way of doing course work.

it may be they don't want to promote the use of drugs,

Of course we need to understand vocabulary here

Drugs
medication
Narcotics

All off which are drugs of some sort of another just the word used depends on how or the legal status. it gets confusing between different countries too.

@stux Thanbks for this, looking forward to Christmas eve and the launch.

Shared video on my blog too, so it will be federated here as well.

NASA's James Webb Space Telescope – Official Mission Trailer

We don’t yet know what the James Webb Space Telescope will uncover. Will we get answers? Will we have more questions? One thing’s certain: The story of us is a never-ending quest for knowledge.

As Carl Sagan said:

“We can’t help it.”

Well yeah, the idea would be to try andj see both view points.

One of my OY assignments years ago was to compare Hydrogen, Biofuel and Electric to power cars, using evidnce for / against each from the course materials.

my conclusion was that neither are perfect but some are better than others depending on say if you are taking short / long journeys for example.

Electric cars are apparently going to solve problems, those arguments make no mention of getting Lithium from the ground to the factory and the environmental impact of doing that.

So much for trusting the experts, when they give a very biased argument.

@newt

I think the idea is that by not referencing something it will just vanish from history

Which is clearly not going to happen and we won't be able to learn about slavery to avoid it happening again,

If you do not allow referencing slavery in fiction, how do you then know slavery is wrong? How do you even argue against it? This is an unbelievably stupid thing to do :comfyuee:

@dsfgs @travis @icedquinn @NEETzsche @rochelimit@mastodon.technology

We need to teach people how to find and verify information, this oddly involves more work than just doing a search but reading between the lines and comprehending information.

@CKsTechnologyNews

While this may apply to exoplanets there is usually something we can take from that about our own solar system.

As a planet we are vulnerable to solar flares for example solar radiation is protected by a magnetic field, if we lose that we are vulnerable, so learning how that works by also observing exoplanets helps us here too.

We could always spend billions developing some super deadly weapon or the next generation nukes, which serve even less purpose.

@Azure

There is let me duckduckgo that for you too

I think people find people asking basic questions annoying though when the person asking may not have even bothered asking or trying to look for hep
how to ask

Asking for help is harder unless you know exactly what to look for.

I do understand your point though

Good morning from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Rain showers are moving away from the spaceport, but a low cloud ceiling remains as SpaceX hopes for favorable weather for launch of a Falcon 9 rocket & Dragon cargo ship at 5:07am EST (1007 GMT).

Different times of the year can really produce some nice lighting from the sun or even moon or other light sources, just need to be in the right place at the right time usually.
