If you're posting images, video or audio on here, it's really important to add a text description so that the post is accessible to blind and/or deaf people.
Blind people use screen reader software to read image and video descriptions aloud, and this lets them understand what is in a picture.
Deaf people read descriptions of audio and video soundtracks to find out what sound is being played.
You can find out how to add descriptions, as well as other accessibility tips for Mastodon and the Fediverse, at:

@joeo10 Even though I am not on the mastodon.technology instance, I would also like to say thank you for your hard work maintaining this and best of wishes going forward
if I try and follow a link to google maps i end up with the following error
I have copied this in to the alt text
If I press on accept or reject it just displays again, so I am assuming I am blocking tracking somewhere.
A good reason to use alternatives such as @DuckDuckGo and @openstreetmap
that generally should 'just work'
So you have complex systems interacting with one another with no one engineer understanding how the systems work. It's possible that the engineers involved had no idea of the vulnerability when they wrote the code.

@onepict Under the GDPR we have a right to know what data is kept on us, how can facebook comply with the GDPR as surely to tell me what data is stored you need to know where it is.
@toast Not sure, as it uses wiki markup. my blog uses markdown, which combined with MathJax allows mathematical notation to be displayed with LaTeX works really nicely.
So not sure if wikipedia has that feature.

@LearnTribe@mastodon.scot The UK home office is an embarrassment,
I can sign up to freecodecamp and can learn from anywhere in the world, however I get emails from free code camp from time to time about courses run by institutions all over the world (even China and the UK) which I or anyone can sign up to.
At least this just proves parallel realities, one for the rest of us, the other one for politicians and government departments.
@trebach@mstdn.social @gemlog
That is an excellent way to put this, no one knows who is going to be in power in years to come.
Hence the GDPR can only gather the info needed and for as long as is needed.
The latter is probably contentious, but under the GDPR we do have the right to know what data people have about us, so that we ca also check for accuracy and get it updated. I am sure the same act also allows data to be removed.
clearly an employer may keep data on us for as long as we work for them, plus a bit longer.
Excellent points here.
@zleap
Seems to have died again; but maybe there's hope that he'll be open to a more collaborative and federated approach now?
@dheadshot I am here, just don't log in very much, sorry.
If I manually post to my blog it should federate here
I was having issues a while back if posts were scheduled. Activity pub seems to act oddly sometimes perhaps.
@newt BNut the queens head would have still been on the old / new currancy of the time.
it would have changed when George VI died and Elizabeth II ascended to the throne.
@newt I am sure there will be a period of transition so that old currency can be collected and new coins issued.
Like many people I am too young to remember the last time.
I find that, peope don't read, the usual tl:dr thing, but the downside of blocking is that the big tech retaliate by blocking you.
Disroot has good system where you have to actually type 150 characters (or words) to answer a specific question when signing up or your account is not approved.
Interested in Technology, Science, Chemistry, Education, Fediverse, GNU/Linux and free software.
