@danhon

I get the impression (from twitter posts) people are confused by the fact there are numerous servers.

I tried to give a jargon free response

You can join any server, maybe one that shares one of your interests, you can the find people on other servers who share your interests and connect with them.

also gave them a link to trunk and my own fedi id so they can find me if needed.

Granted this post is not scheduled until the 8th,

personaljournal.ca/paulsutton/

however the video isn't showing, if I go to the URL for the video I get

ww25.peertube.social/videos/em

An Error Occurred

Services for this domain name have been disabled.

Which does illustrate part of the issue with the fediverse, if content is removed or the host breaks for whatever reason, it affects the federated content.

@lig People are moving here, what we need to do is help them stay here, and explain things in a non technical way (people don't get servers ) without being patronising of course.

May be helpful to people

@rachelmetz Lets hope this is the start of something.

People have not heard of the fediverse etc, so we still need to get the word out there.

@aral Mastodon is currently trending on twitter, so if anyone here is also on there lets help the trend build, it helps publicity and hopefully brings more users here.

We should not be optimising Mastodon so it can handle more people per server. We should be optimising Mastodon so it incentivises more serves with fewer people.

(And if you take that line of thinking to its logical conclusion, you arrive at the idea behind the Small Web: ar.al/2020/08/07/what-is-the-s)

#decentralisation #federation #fediverse #SmallWeb

@aral Agreed, we can manage and assess our own success by doing the right thing and not trying to follow big tech.

@kev This looks really useful I have made some videos illustrating common tasks, if these are useful you are more than welcome to drop them in to tutorial posts.

@beardalaxy @deutrino Indeed, Given what IS on the internet, slashing the workforce will make it worse and there could be less moderation.

Taking advantage of the chaos in the UK. The online safety bill is mean tot address this, but thanks to the current problems it will never get in.

If California copied the UK child privacy law, then other countries may copy the UK online safety bill.

@temporal@mastodon.technology I think star trek has always been a show that pushes boundaries, which is why it is so good.

@deutrino Will that skeleton crew be able to moderate and remove illegal content, deal with trolling, abuse. Leaving the platform safe for other users.

I made a peer tube video recently , was listening to music at the same time, this music ended up part of the video, so was illegal, (copy right) so I deleted the video, removed the audio and re-uploaded.

Easy done of course,

@aral The whole debacle is embarrassing, even worse people are suffering and without strong leadership we as a country will never move forward.

@paulsutton

First rookie camp went well, so hopefully next week will see more new players but also a great chance for everyone to work on new and existing skills.

2023 season is gonna be awesome.
