It’s interesting that the biggest communication challenge facing Mastodon communities is explaining that it’s basically a protocol and a network of independent, interconnected servers, which is what the Web, e-mail, even DNS and most of the fundamental services we use on the internet are, and always were.
It just illustrates just how much ‘Big Tech’ proprietary social media platforms swallowed up and walled off, if it’s now difficult to explain what the internet actually is!
Or perhaps a star trek analogy
Fediverse = United Federation of Planets
Fb, Twitter etc = Borg

Could be a starting point to get these services on here to help people.
I have seen several posts from people how to run their own instances. I don't know much about this directly but I would guess a basic / advanced knowledge of the GNU / Linux command like is probably up there among the skills needed.
So to this end, I am sharing the link below to my own blog , where I have linked to a series of you tube videos on the Linux BASH interface, there are addition parts of this series which I put together as I was asked about cyber security at the code club I rub, so collected some videos that help build up some pre- requisite skills.
It would be great if we could have series such as this native on peertube, in the meantime we can either use Youtube directly or via a front end e.g invideous

Perhaps we can work on a better list to help people with the skills needed for hosting / running Mastodon instances
@freemo
Endless appreciations!
This is marvellous! So qoto.org is an entire ecosystem of free apps and mastodon and peertube etc tie into it! This could be excellent for building serious scholarly discussions on the top of #fediverse, and #qotojournal for example builds a knowledge base.
New to Mastodon? Here are some guides I've found useful for figuring it all out.

You are going to have a lot to talk about in the next episode if the topic is Mass migration to Mastodon
@axbom Great work, thank you.
I assume this is released under some sort of free license such as creative commons, are you perhaps able to make it clear how this can be used please.
Just makes it easer, and saves people asking you.
It's Friday and version 1.2 of "The many branches of the Fediverse" is published. Thanks everyone for your interest and engagement.
There is a changelog at the bottom of the post with more info, and you are welcome to download hi-res PNG and PDF versions of the diagram.
Do feel free to use this visual in any way you like, in your presentations, publish in your own spaces, etceteras. I'm just glad if you find it useful.
@cwebber I think the difference is you can go to sites such as
https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/
and discuss how the Fediverse is developed, and be part of the processes that can make it better.
Tech Jobs and Big Data
I can't remember where I got the graphic below from. However given we on the Feiverse are not interested in collecting data from users, advertising etc Are there any implications for these jobs
If more people come here and in doing so start the move to shun big tech, big data this could potentially lead to serious problems for those who collect data on us and those who strive to develop the technology that does so.
The internet was more fun back then, granted people didnt tolerate if you asked a question without looking it up, or typed caps in to IRC but people were really helpful.
Would be great to grab some of that back, and doing so without ads, tracking etc would be great.
I would talk to @freemo who runs the qoto server he is running several services inc nextcloud and peertube.
