The web browser is 30 years old today - NCSA Mosaic 1.0 released April 22, 1993

#Today is my birthday, I got myself some much needed clothes, shoes and a fantastic pair of headphones. I never do much on my birthday because the fuss is always overwhelming but I do feel settled and calm to have lived 39 years on this planet. Hoping you're all well and safe on this #EarthDay

‘We are moving in the wrong direction’: New UN report highlights the scale of global climate change.

The last 8 years were the world's warmest on record, report warns.

My favorite fact about Americans is that a 1/3 pound burger was created to compete with the Quarter Pounder and people didn’t buy it because they thought it was 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘳 due to being bad at math/fractions.

The worst thing that ever happened in software engineering was when Kirk asked Scotty how long something would take and Scotty said thirty minutes and Kirk said you’ve got five and Scotty got it done in five and impressionable children watched this and grew up to become managers.

Today is #EarthDay💥

Loss of #biodiversity, desertification & #ClimateChange are among the consequences of our disregard for nature & the integrity of its ecosystems.

Earth Day calls for a new relationship with #MotherEarth. 🌏

We have nothing to lose by giving it a go, see what happens then take it from there.

I see so many cool things on .art; people making baskets from reeds (mastodon.art/@rugedigu/1102366), hand-carving wooden violin bridges (mastodon.art/@temporalsculpt/1), making soap (mastodon.art/@onecreativecat/1), banging out metal jewelry (mastodon.art/@sonjaselena/1102), constructing mossy terrariums (mastodon.art/@TeaFrancis/10983). It's inspiring and wholesome and amazing and I love it.

What are some recent awesome crafty stuff you've seen around the fediverse lately? Link the posts!

I am confident that things are moving in the right direction. We should just be very mindful of what happens when big tech companies start to notice this sort of thing, they try and embrace, extend, extinguish.

Borrowing from @HopeVanDyne-

“I asked my Senators to put something together and got a good response from one. They’ll never know what we want from a WaPo column- we have to tell them. I’d do that.”

Sharing opinions and articles is important, too, but this is a really important part of participating in democracy and we should all be doing it regularly. Most of them really don’t hear from us enough.

Yeah, so we need a way to have refer links but perhaps in a limited capacity, not sure.

I want to tell parents of trans kids under attack in the red states something:

This is simply horrifying. Like you, we can't understand how any politicians could stoop so low as to attack the most vulnerable among us.

You are strong, and we will fight for and beside you. And though we may lose these initial battles, your love and strength will help win this in the end. I know that to be true.

What I have found in the past is where teachers have 'tried' to enforce rules or instill discipline, the person causing the trouble kicks off with the 'I have rights' argument, this undermines teacher authority, but any student can do that.

So when a teacher tries to stop racist bullying they are told they can't as the purp has rights,so hands are pretty much tied, as the parents kick off too sometimes.

However victims are also just as likely to step out of line at times and then remind teacher sof their rights.

So teachers are damned if they do, damned if they don't.

If we want to create a society where people are safe and have the right to do things, go to school without fear, walk down the streets without fear. People also need to be held to account, so when they step out of line, they can be punished in a way that is appropriate and proportionate to their age, the crime and other factors.

That way also if victims of bullying / abuse come forward to disclose, they know the teachers are actually able to DO something about it, hopefully backed by the parents too.

In the case of disclosing abuse, teachers need to know that the local authorities will back them and investigate properly. Victims may come forward once, it takes al ot of bravery to do so, so that disclosure is a one chance to help that person.

"If you're a reporter, or academic, or merchant, or anyone else who's depended on Twitter for some measure of their work."

Lets hope thatr fedi can be a real replacement twitter as far as commerce is concerned but we get the right balance as I do appreciate people don't want to be bombarded with advertisements, we need to ensure communication is two way, post info on my latest product, and interact with responses to that.

@SweaterVest@mastodon.cloud

It is illegal in the UK too.
