For folks preparing to move out of Florida, apparently the state will suspend your license if you do not have Florida insurance on your car. So remember to get a new license in whatever state you move to before your insurance in Florida runs out.

Writefreely seems to federate, however, only If I write and publish the blog there and then. If I schedule the post then when it come up on my blog it doesn't federate here.
I am not too bothered about this, as quite often I will see something interesting here on fedi, and write about it on my blog so it doesn't need to then get published again here.
I don't think you need every blog post to federate, just need to control what gets shared depending on needs.
There does not seem to be much in the way of movement to train or recruit people.
Local company to me teach 'digital skills' this seems to include photography, media, game design etc. Not seen anything regarding AI, cybersecurity, coding, or putting people in to enginnering so we can i dunno build infrastructure to take wind / solar farms and connect to power grids etc.
At the same time I am running code club, on a volunteer basis so ok just teaching the basics with scratch / python, but there is no reason people can't go furhter, it would be great to do similar sessions for adults on a paid basis, with the view that those who want to go further can be signposted to courses or at least appropriate advice.
Here in Torbay and much wider there seems to be a serious isconnect, confirming what you are saying here, with a serious shortage AND our actual training priorities.
Free code camp just sent out their latest bulletin, first article is looking at using AI fo coding, I have code club later on today, last week I had a brief discussion on this with one of the parents, as he had experimented a little with getting chat gpt to write code. So this article is good timing, so next STEM group meeting could be watching the linked video and having conversations.
I think it is this sort of out of box thinking that is needed.
Hopefully today I will connect with a few more of the home school community , they home school for a reason and are keen to learn.
Sadly I think most are under 16, so there is little chance of them entering the workforce for a few years.
I am sure what is holding all this back is a lack of understanding in the topic area, from the very people who decide on what courses to run, everything here has to be accredited, people have undertaken free code camp courses and obtained good jobs, I am sure a lot of these acreditation people are just box ticking burocrats,
I don't understand cybersecurity or AI BUT I do understand the need for expertise in these areas.
BBC news article today suggests UK teachers want more info / guidence on AI in education. ( I will see if I can post about that later)
I saw a post on here earlier saying about a conversation they had with a scientist at NASA, with regard to us having already pushed the Amazon over the edge.
This was saved to my book marks but seems to have vanished, in fact I clicked on bookmarks a few mins ago that saved post seem to flash up then just vanish.
Either the original post has been deleted or something odd is going on with Mastodon / fediverse.
any ideas, if someone can either link to or ping me with a link to the post please, it would be great to I can take a better read of it.
Thanks
I have zero confidnce the oil industry will do anything, they hve their profits and share holders to think about.
What is perhaps needed is a MASSIVE class action lawsuit against them, to basically wipe them out, bankcrupt everyone who works for big oil from the Janitors to the CEOs.
An unfurled thread from NASA climate scientist Peter Kalmus (@ClimateHuman)

I was just at a NASA team meeting for 3 days in DC. Experts on tropical rainforests told me privately that they think the Amazon has already passed its tipping point. Let that sink in. The world needs to know.
When I am at these scientific meetings, where basically every talk and poster is about precisely how Earth is rapidly breaking down, I just want to scream.
It makes me incredibly angry and frustrated and sad that Biden keeps expanding fossil fuel production and infrastructure, in direct opposition to the clearest science. What are climate scientists supposed to do? We are losing Earth, folks. We must force our leaders to stop.
Always, always keep in mind that to halt this, we must end the fossil fuel industry. Nothing else will substitute for that. Don't let them distract you with carbon offsets, carbon capture, fusion, or recycling.

Climate scientists are scared and are furious about what's happening. We ALL should be frightened, angry, and demanding action!
As Peter says: "We must end the fossil fuel industry. Nothing else will substitute for that."

Good point, a combination of co-ordinated strategies would be good, plus an effort to ramp up awareness of what is going on.
I am optimistic to be able to say you are not alone, people stand with you,

Yeah, not very much for R&D we need to be doing R&D AND fabricating chips so we are not relying on imports..
Given how much we are spending to stop the boats, with no actual results we could spend the money elsewhere like on R&D for tech
I wonder if any of the non Disney parks will follow suit, given the question would they be there had Disneyworld not opened in the first place. If they too halt investment someone will eventually put 2 and 2 together and find Ron DeSantis as the common factor behind all this.

In the same way Facebook et al is no different, post nudity and the image gets deleted, regardless of context, so pornography yes, BUT so is naturism, artistic (even paintings apparently) even down to a women topless but having breast aumentation surgery (I think that is the right term). So there is little wriggle room for expression.
Where as here, the moderators use more context and common sense when doing their job. We as users can choose to hide all media and choose to view based on description for example.
I keep seeing people get upset about Youtube and Google and what they're going to do and what happens to everyone's videos...
It's their company. They can do whatever they want. They can shut it down.
Why do people keep acting like corporations are public services? What are we not getting about this?
Perhaps they just feel that they are not being listened to, by either side, so don't see the point?
While what is going on is not the fault of all the various theme parks, tourist atractions in florida, these venues must generate a lot of income for the state in general.
A full boycott of Florida is in order, stand shoulder to sholder with the trans and other communities and send a clear message to DeSantis and his supporters. This would hurt people, however once voters in Florida realise why and accept the blame lies with DeSentis, perhaps they will start doing something about what is going on.
