If you told a child in the UK to do that you would be struck off and face prison for child abuse. and other things.

What does the anti-trans movement look like in practice?

Two girls in Misssissippi missed their high school graduations due to a rigidly enforced dress code. One, a trans girl, was told two weeks ahead of time she needed to wear pants.

The second, a gender-nonconforming girl, was pulled out of line and told to take her pants off and walk in her underwear.

Seems banks are not much better

Interest rate 'rigging' evidence 'covered up' by banks

We need to follow the example of Iceland, bank failing, allow to fail, arrest people at the top, thrown in prison.

After all a failed bank ruins lives of far more.

Good customer service is rare, but is excellent where it does exist.

I am boosting, and wish you and your family all the best, healthcare is essential and for kids they need to trust the person they see to discuss medical or general needs.

It’s like this: my sib Tidy just called and told me that a significant portion of the population of Austin is up in arms because Dell Children’s Hospital just shut down its entire adolescent medicine dept over fallout from this anti-gender-affirming care crap.

The only MD in the city doing trans youth medicine also happens to be, by all accounts, the best MD in the city for cis girls with other complex stuff. Both of my cis nieces with weird issues are among her patients. This poor doc just said “fuck it” and quit, she couldn’t take the relentless bashing. My nieces and countless other Austin girls are now without the medical care they need and deserve. And for what? The governor’s MAGA street cred?

My point is this: even if your kids aren’t trans, this anti-trans bullshit can and will still fuck them up.

Protecting trans kids protects ALL kids.

How about we have the law similar to that requring a consistent charge system, i think that is using USB C or something,

But for batteries, surely laptops could all use the same battery or one of a handful of batteries depending on the power requirements, we could have consistent power blocks too.

This would reduce waste as we could just use another charger like we can with phones or other devices.

It would probably make everything easier to recycle too.

How many working computers are out there, that are bricks as the Power block is broken / lost and no longer made.?

UK politics

@Peternimmo

I would much rather have the dysfunctional mess we have here, then the pathetic circus of politics in the US, Biden appears to be a good president, but the alternatives in the GOP led by either Trump or DeSantis (given what he is doing in florida) and what else the GOP are doing is terrifiying.

If the Tories win the GE we get more of the same, if labour win we get a change in the right direction.

If biden wins the demoncrats carry on and hopefully make the US better. If the GOP pull of a win, the whole world is in serious trouble.

@info_activism

What is also interesting but does need verification is an advert in the newspaper from sky saing they are bottom for complaints, as in they get less than their rivals, it looks like BT are near the top.

I wonder if there is a link between this and the cuts are a deliberate attempt to stop people complaining.

@Ulrich_the_Elder

Two points from this.

1. Recent UK council elections required photo id in order to vote, this was to avoid what seems to be non-existent voter fraud. A lot of people didn't vote as a result, but there were multiple reasons for that too.

Hopefully by the general election, this idea will be put on the back burner until it can be sorted out properly.

2. Local council / by-elections and national elections are a different thing.

3. People are just fed up

@carolvorders

Didn't they re-write a set of rules a while back to avoid the issue of breaking the rules, why follow when you can re-write.

citation needed for that, but how many people can keep up with all that.

The rot started ages ago, remember the issue with the expenses, where peope where claiming for all sorts of stuff they were not meant to be.

@robotmonkeys@hachyderm.io

I agree, it seems every site we go to needs an app, even when there is no obvious need to.

If a website is W3C compliant, then it will just work in a browser.

The reaction of this worker being away from her colony was very different from the drones. The drones just stood around smelling the air and didn't run or panic. She very clearly did not like being in a new place and she practically opened the tank herself to go back inside.

Here's a petition I'd urge you all to sign!

Code paid by the people should be available to the people!

We want legislation requiring that publicly financed software developed for the public sector be made publicly available under a Free and Open Source Software licence. If it is public money, it should be public code as well.

I am not sure how we can try and solve the current training situation, not everyone wants to do full time accredited courses, for intro level stuff just make it fun and then take it from there perhaps
My current suitation is that I am looking for more hours, I am currently employed by an agency only there doesn't seem to be much in ther way of Teaching Assistant work in Torbay, there is, |I am just not getting any.

I am also running Code Club and a STEM group on a volunteer basis. I really see a gap in the market to teach basic coding to adults (or parents so they can keep up with the kids) however as there is a shortage ofpeople in certain technical roles, we should be trying to reach out to them.

Talking to some of the parents, it seems some of the computing curriculum teaching is not happening in primary schools, oddly canm use scratch, know some basic python, can do basic electronics, add LEDs to Raspberry Pi, Arduino and have used Micro:bits so running a code club for either kids or adults on a paid basis can't be that difficult.

So happy to try and collaborate with anyone in the for the moment, who works / involved with say , to see if we can find ways to teach people the essential skills. The courses are out there anyway so just a case of putting people in touchj and providing a place for people to study online courses perhaps.

Perhaps get actual hands on experience with the Linux command line or perhaps Kali linux and related tools would be also good. We could do that at Paignton Library, I am sure I don't need to be a teacher for this, more of a facilitator to provide a place for people to study.

We need people with technical skills for future jobs.
