There is a lack of social engagement, interest, about evidenced best ways to live sustainably.
There is a lack of social engagement regarding posts that speak out against air pollution.
There is a lot of #science publications that detail the problems caused by the ecologically unsustainable businesses & lifestyles.
There are many people that are living & supporting extremely unsustainable lifestyles, whilst not doing anything (much) to reduce CO2 emissions.

Yes, we need a new way of doing things that still retains the advantages of the tried and tested ways that do work.
+1 to journals being useful, also they become a good archive for research and progress can be tracked over time.
The other big tech platforms are not much better, in terms of the hate on them or how wild speculations around incidents large or small, just seems to spread.
A friend asked me what I thought of the AI doomsday news
Essentially, I'm not that worried about AI. There is always an enormous gulf between the technology we *have* and what companies can do to actually roll it out in a way that's profitable
What I'm much more concerned about, I said, is how much personal info companies collect about individuals without any gov barriers. It's been roughly 15 yrs, & there's hardly any legislation. GDPR is a good step, but it's essentially the only law around

@fifonetworks If you need a camera such as this get a Raspberry Pi + camera module and build / set one up your self from scratch, write or download and scrutinise any software using the camera and take by control of your privacy
Never ever trust an Internet-connected camera. This example is Ring (owned by Amazon). A few months ago the Roomba camera was also proved to be uploading intimate video.
"A former employee of Amazon.com's Ring doorbell camera unit spied for months on female customers in 2017 with cameras placed in bedrooms and bathrooms, the Federal Trade Commission said in a court filing on Wednesday when it announced a $5.8 million settlement with the company over privacy violations."
"Amazon also agreed to pay $25 million to settle allegations it violated children's privacy rights when it failed to delete Alexa recordings at the request of parents and kept them longer than necessary, according to a court filing in federal court in Seattle that outlined a separate settlement."

AI: War crimes evidence erased by social media platforms
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-65755517
So opinions on #Mainstrem #SocialMedia and #AI to one side for the moment. This seems to be about #Objective and #CriticalThinking when it comes to #Moderation. What can we develop on the #Fediverse to balance usersafety with preservation of evidence, which in this context is #Evidence of #WarCrimes.
How should #SocialMedia deal with this in general
@zleap Yes the propaganda worked. Which is why I am urging people to learn what propaganda is and how it works on them...

To be fair, during the soccer world cup, a bbc reporter asked two young ladies if they watched the last match, they were not even aware the world cup was being played, let alone that England were in the world cup.
In general, I think some news topics are followed by those who are interested, so if you are in to the space program, then sure you will follow the Artemis mission (or may be aware of it).
Same for sport, if you support an NFL team you will know who is playing etc, but if you prefer baseball and don't follow the NFL I would not expect you to know what was going on, other than perhaps from the odd news report you have watched.
Sarcasm ahead : Candidates must consider sexual abuse of children acceptable or have committed or assisted in the sexual abuse of children, or taken part in wide scale cover up.
