"But in response to the threats to your stores, you did something that we in the community cannot do. You see, we can’t simply pull our identities and our lives off the shelves. We can’t just take the rainbow flags down, hoping these monsters leave us alone.

In fact, we know they won’t….

Bullies are the same the world round, and they must be dealt with the same.

You cannot give them what they want, because they will only come back, demanding more."

It was 79 years ago today that antifa forces invaded the beaches of Normandy to defeat the Nazis.

Let us remember their sacrifices by not allowing modern Nazis to take power, no matter what country you are in.

If you need to move between #Mastodon instances and would like to keep your posts (including attached images and video), you can do that with #MastodonContentMover

It's a command-line tool that saves your posts from your current instance to your computer, and then reposts them to your new instance. It's in development, but an early test version is available.

You can download the tool and find out more at mastodoncontentmover.github.io

This one file helped me many many times. Whenever some software or a website requires an image but I don't have one or don't want to use one I use this blank file.

A transparent gif works sometimes as well;)

1. In 2023, conservative activists have advanced the theory that "woke" corporations are pushing a radical, pro-LGBTQ agenda

But a Popular Information investigation reveals 25 rainbow flag-waiving corporations have donated $13.5 million to anti-gay politicians since Jan 2022

🧵

@juddlegum

They are corporations, they jump on any campaign that will generate social media likes, metrics and ultimately income and profits. Then while people are distracted do the opposite to what they imply they support.

Corruption and lying is part of their corporate ethos, they don't care about people.

Great point, I am not sure how many star link satellites are up there but there must be a 10s of thousands.

Are you able to share links to these papers please or are they not available to the public yet, (no problem, I was just thinking for context).

Paul

I had to find a couple of papers for one of my students to review and I just looked at all the new papers on satellite observations and predictions for satellite pollution and now I am super depressed.

What's currently playing out in Low Earth Orbit is the worst parts of capitalism, on fast-forward (literally at several km/s if you want to get technical...) It's so bad. Orbit needs strong, international regulation 20 years ago.

It’s very exciting that Apple is unveiling its extended-reality play this morning, but a reminder to all devs and enthusiasts: this will be beta software. Before installing, be sure to do a full backup of your current reality.

Internal documents reveal Twitter ad sales cratering amid onslaught of porn, propaganda, and disinformation, as Elon Musk insists ads on the upswing. [Unpaywalled link] tinyurl.com/dumptwitter

@stevesilberman

Can the UK governmenbt PLEASE get their finger out and get the online safety bill in Law, so this company can be held to account. How much longer is this going to be delayed, more worryingly is how much DAMAGE is being done in the meantime.

It is time to treat ANY company who is still on twitter and claiming to be committed to safeguarding as a SEVERE risk to children and young people. There is no reason they should be on Twitter other than the fact they are seriously out of touch with reality, which makes them a risk too.

For decades, scientists thought the only place to find supermassive black holes was in the center of massive galaxies.

But now, weirdly huge black holes have shown up in the universe's tiniest galaxies — amd in rare cases, black holes have been kicked from their homes into intergalactic space.

I am sure these contries can come up with a solution to the regions issues on their own, without the USA patronising them by trying to tell them what to do or how to do it. They are not stupid in the Middle East, mostly sick of the west (mostly) treating them like they are stupid.

We can encourage a peaceful solution to the region, without being directly involved.

#Apple just released a beginners guild to #Mastodon ahead of #WWDC which is very strange timing indeed

It mentions @ivory, @MonaApp, @mannyapp and a bunch of other client apps but doesn't mention the #fediverse at all!

ht to @butter for finding this!

I think a vast majority of people are capable of a) behaving properly b) raising their children to do the same and respect others.

Sadly we have been taken over by so called 'do gooders' who usually have some sort of qualification in nonsense,. try and make endless excuses for behaviour and why it should go unchallenged.

Sure we understand Autism and other conditions, but even them I am sure a vast number of people with those conditions do understand boundaries and have feelings for others.

I am not sure what the solution is, perhaps all the proud boys are Autistic, or perhaps they should have had a kick up the backside as a child to ensure the don't repeat bad behaviour.

In schools kids with autism seem to be fine until others try and trigger them to kick off, so in that respect it is not their fault this is not acceptable behaviour but unless someone sees what leads up to the child kicking off that child is blamed.

You only need to look at how some people behave on social media to realise people are just idiots at times and need to, some how be put in their place.

They know what they are doing, they know the consequences but want to create a scene or trigger a reaction to satisfy their own egos in some cases.

It is too easy to label with a condition which I feel is the problem, it puts people with that condition in a bad light too

These look like music CDs, no matter how hard you argue that digitial / streaming is better, at least with a physical cd it can stay on my shelf and played when / where I want without the risk of the copy right owner deciding I can't play it any more and removing from my collection, if that mp3 provider falls out with amazon for example amazon can, at the owners demand, delete from my collection.

Owning a physical item, is different from owning a digital only copy, the right to play a digital only lies with the owner of that digital file, the person just seems to buy the right (at the time) to play it.

Could also explain why vinyl sales have shot up recently.

The same goes for physical books, if you take a physical book set or wrtten decades ago with language from the time, the owner can change he book and stop sales of the old version, probably delete from collection forcing you to rebuy.
