I thought cruel and unusual punishment was outlawed, how can the secret service make this poor chap see Trump in the shower. ?

Former FBI assistant director says if former President Trump is convicted he could end up in a supermax prison with just one Secret Service agent for shower time. mediaite.com/radio/nbc-news-an

Tech Press don’t understand the #Fediverse, so how can they understand its growth?

To hear them talk, most of them believe that #Mastodon and the Fediverse are one and the the same. Some of them go so far as to call the Fediverse the “Mastodon network”.

Which means that they don’t have a clue about what the Fediverse entails, nor how it has grown.

Case in point: between Jan-May 2023, #Misskey and its forks grew by 300,000 accounts. No one in the Tech Press reported this.

Okay, perhaps they didn’t know because the bulk of growth happened in Japan. But still, this is fairly important to know since Misskey is now responsible for generating the bulk of Fediverse content. Still, Tech Press think the Fediverse is about Mastodon.

And now, #Lemmy and #Kbin are experiencing lots of growth, with both collectively gaining 100,000 users in a week. This is quite a noteworthy event since the #RedditMigration is part and parcel of dissension on #Reddit – a pretty major Big Social platform.

Does the Tech Media report on this? Nope. But again, that’s because they don’t understand the Fediverse nor what it entails.

Then Meta signal that a new project they’re making, #P92 (a.k.a., #Barcelona), will be joining the Fediverse. There’s even screenshots that show this app interacting with remote Fediverse servers.

But instead of reporting about how this will affect the existing Fediverse, press such as the #BBC say this is an altogether different social network than Mastodon.

That’s right! Tech Press don’t even realize P92 will be joining the Fediverse – a social network that already exists!

Is this all ridiculous? Yes.

But this is why we have to be forthright about what the Fediverse is, what it entails, and what it all matters.

We, on the Fediverse, must be our own Press.

And the SNP accuse the Tories of being corrupt, it seems all parties are corrupt for allowing this to happen. or at least they should stand up to these landlords etc

@rbreich

During his presidnecy Trump visited both N Korea and Russia, and spoke to the leaders of those to countries, then the pandemic, hit, post pandemic, he lost the election, then Russia invaded Ukraine, I get the impression that if Trump does win in 2024, his early task will be to withdraw US support for Ukraine. I get the impression generally that had he won in 2020, this support would not be there in the first place.

Trump weakened NATO, stole classified documents, and it makes you wonder what would have happened had he won, a quick visit to Moscow with those documents and the US would have been totally scrweed in terms of defense.

It seems Trump is more desperate to get back to the whitehouse, more than a lot of people are, which makes you wonder what is long term agenda is, his modus operandi is clearly not suggesting he has loyality to the US, some of the laws on Trans / gay people in the US, are not too far away from what Putin has done. The only conspiracy here is the conspiracy of the GOP and what they want to do.

Nord stream gets blown up, a dam, and this puts a nuclear power station at risk, nukes get put in Belarus, right on the border with Uraine, and the west is powerless to act without the risk of escalating to a wider conflict. Meanwhile N Korea continues to develop more nukes and china poses a thrat to Taiwan, and the wider world in other ways.

The latter is happening while the US is distracted with Trump in court, makes you wonder if this is all part of the plan, to distract the US government long enough for someone to do something very sinister.

We have very weak cyber security in the west, or it seems like that, and it seems from another post the US relies on Russia for uranium enrichment.

Just what is going on here. ?

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has already banned Diversirty, Equity and Inclusion programs in Florida. Now he confirms that if elected president he would use the DoJ to go after DEI programs nationally.
He must never become President.

Sad news today, which I got from the other social media platform. Nick Kaiser has passed away, he was one of the giants of gravitational lensing. So here is one of his last lectures from about a month ago as a last inspiration:

Day 77 #BikeStreak
Today I rode my #bicycle to Lincolnshire Park in #RochMN where Park & Rec held a grand opening of the 1st public splash pad in town. After, I continued up the Douglas trail to Douglas and then back home logging 30 miles.
Along the way I inspected the newest bicycle infrastructure in town, a culvert bridge over a drainage ditch which separated the post office, a community disability support center and a popular brewery from the Douglas Trail.

+1 If anything it has the opposite effect, on the population as this is associated with anyone talking about climate change, even though the people with PhDs follow the science.

Search engines are useless. Windows is packaging Internet features few asked for. The major public sites are sealed tight to avoid third party tools.

Web 1.0 is back, baby!

Interesting thank you, I didn't think my comment amounted to very much but clearly it did.

This is what worries me, about AI, humans develop certain abilities that should stop us doing stupid things.

nytimes.com/2023/06/14/climate Fascinating article on U.S. dependence on Russian enriched uranium and the need for the U.S. to do it’s own enrichment. A bill to push this is in the works… from Manchin.

Agreed no point repeating previosu solutions we know what needs to be done, politicians are too weak and pathetic to act!
