Just asking here in case anyone, withj decent bash expertise can help please.

Having copied files from an old PVR (digitial video recorder thingy) we have files such as this

New:.1864-2015-May-30.20:02:17.307534.nts
New:.1864-2015-May-30.20:02:17.307534.ts

New:.1864-2015-May-30.21:00:30.091333.ts

These are on my main computer hard disk, I have a 2nd that is currently FAT32 (I think) but I can't copy these files due to the characters in the filename.

Is there a easy way to take these files, and rename them so I can stripo out all but the final period (which is between '091333.ts' for example.

I am running Debian, and it wom't let me copy over to the other HDD, While I can do this manually there are LOTS of files. So there has to be a way to do this, perhaps a combination of

rename , sed or other commands.

Any pointers welcome please.

Thanks

Paul

Debian 12 migration, part 1.

Having downloaded a Debian 12 image, I have now made this in to a USB install media. Next task is to test this on a laptop. I will upgrade my main PC at some point but need to do this slowly and figure out a few other things first.

But will attempt an install over the weekend.

This is not good for Putin, but could be good for Ukraine and the rest of the world as it could be a first step to ending all this bloodshed once and for all.

I experienced a likely EBV infection as a young teen, with chronic fatigue and other setbacks. In the end I was able to resume ‘ordinary’ function in high school, and have been doing fine since… except when I’m not, and sometimes I wonder who I would be and what my life would have been like without that?

Thanks!
They are all learning and growing with all the support I and their parents can give them. Children are resilient and most of them will be fine.
I think it will turn out that this kind of setback has been rather common through history but is easier to see here because a novel virus provides clear timelines and comparisons. It will stop when we figure out basic sanitation for air, the way we did for water.

Dawlish Sea Defences

A few years ago, a big storm washed away the foundations of the train tracks, these were shored up but since then a lot of work has taken place to rebuild and also ensure good sea defences for the future, the track here is a main arterial route for the South West.

Another photo from Dawlish Devon, this time of the stream that runs through a park and down towards the sea.

I wish all your students well and hope they can follow their dreams one day.

@augieray

My students did very well through 3 months of online learning and through another year and a half with distancing and masks. Learning continued with barely a hiccup. Their progress slipped and fell in 2022 when nearly all of them contracted Covid. The ones that are Covid damaged are still struggling and everyone who had it took a hit. The students that avoided Covid are quite notably in a different place.

S. Wolff: Fomalhaut's exo-asteroid belt as seen by JWST!! (I wrote more about this here: astronomybynight.ca/the-curiou)

Debris disks are detected as radiating dust, mostly in IR. Fomalhaut has "eye of Sauron structure". Dust they observed is way more complex than predicted, especially the "intermediate belt" that wasn't previously seen. Fom b not detected - "great dust cloud" is just a stupid background galaxy.

I have met with Google, Facebook, Apple, and other big tech orgs multiple times in the past.

One of the things I started doing when dealing with these orgs is state "Sorry, but for legal reasons, I'm not allowed to sign any NDAs." (I work for an openly public company.)

I like to use that as a gauge for how important the discussion will actually be. I've only had one meeting delayed for a bit which is perfectly fine.

The guy is a total prat, thing is the Romanian authorities don't seem to want to pander to the usual excuse crap we get in the UK, he has been charged and will have his day in court AND will face prison, if he is mocking victims this will at least count then this may be taken in to consideration and probably add to the prison term.
