@anderspuck a pendulum implies equal swings. The conservatives after the Brexit referendum decided to exploit the situation to gain a new electoral coalition based on nationalist-populist ideology. That's run out of steam, meanwhile the Labour party is as centrist as ever. This means the conservatives have lost the votes of the educated middle class and no longer have the nationalist issue to mobilise the working class and lower middle class. The party needs to be rebuilt after Boris.

Wow! In what has been a rare occurrence for some time, a contract has ended and I have some availability in my schedule.

I'd love to help some new folks build their project on the open web. I'm well-versed in design systems and component-based architecture, #WebComponents in particular. I also have expertise working with both #JavaScript & #Ruby on the backend, and decades-long know-how when it comes to building out integrated systems and build processes.

Ping me! ✌️

Sounds like the sort of underhand, immorral tactics used by companies like Meta / X et al to harvest data, abuse users and maintain monopolies. Anyone using big tech or tied in to large corporations should NOT be allowed to be critical of Russia over their grain policy.

Russia is offering cheap grain to developing economies "to create new dependencies by exacerbating economic vulnerabilities and global food insecurity."

Seems like much simpler times compared to the pomp and ceremony associated with modern inaugurations.

Can we redefine bullying as something like ' humiliating and degrading treatment' I think as with EU Human rights law, that is illegal, so charge the bully with the above or sue the school or accessory.

Same as for physical assault being downgraded to Physical bullying there is no such thing under the law, there is assault and various degrees of assault. So citing the actual law may help.

If there are laws on discrimination and a school or business is allowing that to take place or even facilitating it, they could be liable.

As a note i tried to read the article, first I had a accept cookie box pop up, then I had another box come up saiyng how I can subscribe to wired. I closed the window, I just want to read things.

However as I don't actually read on a regular basis I may only learn about an article if they are posted here. So usage would be very very occasional.

I appreciate the bible in some circles is treated with some sceptical views, but some of the bible stories such as David and Goliath spring to mind here, you can take on big tech and win.

We need to stop burning fossil fuels as soon as possible.

That's the only way to stop climate change.

Anyone saying different is bullshitting you.

This means that we will need to RESTRUCTURE SOCIETY.

BUSINESS AS USUAL IS NOT AN OPTION.

We need to find ways of living that don't damage the environment further, and which allow us to cope with the effects of climate change.

We need much deeper changes than just 'electric cars' and 'clean fuels'.

Following a recent discussion on here, I found an infographic on what we get from crude oil, and there are a huge number of products that we DO get, people normally think of the components of Petrol, diesel.

I made a blog post about this, it is just not published yet.

So what I want to do help from others ( website pages can be linked together) is to look at these products and research

1. Can we live without them ( if we can then adapt and stop using them)
2. Can we develop sustainable alternatives
3. How can we do this ( we need more people to study chemistry for example)
4. We need to invest in 3 so we can do 2
5. What is the product ENTIRE lifecycle

As you said here we need to just stop using polluting products but we also need to change so much about how we live.

Hopefully here on fedi, as we can have rational / civilised / science based discussions we can come up with some real alternative plans.

My blog is here, and the mentioned posts are scheduled for the next few days, if I republish manually they will federate, otherwise I can just post a link here.

I don't want to make this seem like a pro-oil argument, I want to make this so people apply critical thinking in to what we get from oil and what alternatives we can develop and what to do if we can't.

Artists Drop Twitter Over Melon Husk's Plan to Train His AI Project on Tweets

Some artists and writers say they'll stop posting to Twitter amid concerns generative AI software like Husk's xAI is training on their work and will eventually plagiarize it.

Sorry, fedi, Americans are gonna be kinda insufferable for a few days because our former President just got legit charged by the US government with trying to do a coup and we're going to be wrestling with the concept that this is actually happening for a few days.

@tomcrinstam

Thanks, I will take a look at those and see what I can come up with

@GirlInSpace@mstdn.social

Cool, thanks for this.

But tourism is suffering from the crisis it helped create. It's time to re-imagine a tourism that is compatible with planetary boundaries as well as people's wellbeing and ways of life.

ISomeone needs to provide Trump with a sinister looking white cat (like in the 007 films) for his appearance before the court room and judge.

have some craft sticks in the same colours as the DNA base molecules as in Blue, Red, Yellow. Green (well these colours seem to be used to represent them anyway). So if I put these together in pairs, how many pairs do I need to represent DNA.

IIRC there are something like 26 chromosomes, in DNA so I would assume I make up 26 pairs and then find a way to attach then all together,

This is just an idea at the moment as such a model is going to need some space so I may need to do this at the Library where there is more space.

Thanks for any help

I know the actual DNA molecule is far more complex than this but these models are just a representation.
