To get on a board of govenors in the Uk or any job in a school there is a formal application process, application, refrences and background checks.
Do US schools not have processes in place to safeguard school communities. ?

Brilliant,
This makes me so angry. I knew people who went to New College. I've been to their Palm Court Party. I was so envious of what a cool, small school vibe it had and the students were all exactly the kinds of people you want more of in the world. DeSantis put fucking Christopher Rufo on the board at New College. This is a travesty and I hope more leaks out.
Watch this video of a parent tearing into Rufo over all the bullshit happening at the school. If you have already seen it, awesome!

British Columbia Premier begging on the news tonight for everyone to conserve water as just about the entire province is now in the highest Stage 5 drought index - also begging for 1000 more firefighters as wildfires at a record - and then in background talks with Alberta to vastly expand LNG - cognitive dissonance?

I think it was back in the 80s or early 90's when I think it was either Oxfam or Unicef ran an advertising campaign that said if we give food to a family in africa we feed them for a few days, if we give them the means to grow their own food, they can feed their family for a life time.
I think it depends on the type of support you give people and how much help and support you provide, you can give a lot of help at the start and slowly start taking that away as people get more confident with doing those tasks on their own.
Not sure how applicable that is now
Ok, I am not a technical expert but surely what we have works so why break a model that works and does the job. More complexity = more work for people too.
Option 1: We can define an #ActivityPub2 specification (or equivalent) that moves wholesale away from #JsonLD and adopts something that pushes the complexity to a different level. Preferably something with a more defined metamodel.
Bluntly: I do not think this is feasible. Not from a technical standpoint, but rather from a _cultural_ one. Too many people too invested in JSON-LD, and too much already built on top of #ActivityPub to do this.

Well if it is displaying properly then the statement released is empty or contains nothing or no statement.
I was more asking on a technical view point as if something isn't working we can work with people to fix it.
So from what you are suggesting, it is not a technical issue.
All I see here is a blank white square, is that the point or is something not displaying properly?
According to the BBC, there are record numbers of children falling victim to sexual exploitation through apps such as snapchat and tiktok. While the report is in the UK, I can't see how this is just limited to the UK and that there has to be victims in the USA too.
So while the GOP is banning books, kids are being exploited online. This should be a priority not banning books on some false narrative books harm children.
(Via @futurebird ) So Republican lawmakers in Iowa appear to be (effectively) rolling dice to decide which books to ban from schools now.
> "Frankly, we have more important things to do than spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to protect kids from books," (emphasis mine)
> "We are confident this process will ensure the spirit of the law is enacted here in Mason City,"
> "For those titles within Mason City’s library collections, administrators asked ChatGPT the specific language of Iowa’s new law, "Does [book] contain a description or depiction of a sex act?"
> "If the answer was yes, the book will be removed from circulation and stored,"
You can't make this shit up.
They could also complain that the neural network has bias set by their political opponents, and then train a neural network on a data set constructed by "the right kind of people" who want to ban books of any kind and ask it whether it contains objectionable material.
I have seen humans do more elaborate things than that to try and justify various acts of oppression. All you need to do is come up with a seemingly "objective" process of justifying your every psychotic whim, and you can trick most people into thinking your psychotic behavior is perfectly logical and reasonable.

The rich / elite clearly think facism is the only way they can maintain their status and power. They need the press on their side so ensure this happens too.
The US failed to make this illegal after WWII (apparently under the guise of free expression.) We have the issues we do today. It seems the far right are growing in Europe and also globally, slowly taking over in different countries, we seem to have a far right leader in Argentina.
They are achieving through democracy and voting what Hitler and Musolini failed to do during WWII. Removing content from the school curriculum is a way to ensure people don't learn the parts of history that would cause people to question what is going on.
An unfortunate reality of our moment is that (1) lots of us feel powerless to help deal with the various disasters floating around us and (2) there are lots of such disasters, often so bad they impact our physical (mapped) world.
A small but significant way to help is updating Open Street Map, since it is used by emergency teams around the world; here’s links to emergency mapping going on in Alaska, Maui, and Vermont right now: https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-us/2023-August/022052.html
Does the oath of office apply during just the presidency or does it also apply after your term has finished.
Question relates to :
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis used a mobster statute — Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) — to charge Trump and his co-defendants with violating the oath of office, conspiracy to commit forgery, filing false documents and more.
I am going to send them an e-mail to sort of sign up, as I am required to by the job centre but will ask why they are using
Google - which spies on and tracks users
Bing / Yanoo - which no one uses
Facebook - the platform for elderly people
Twitter - now called X but it is a right wing, racist cesspit that again no one with a decent IQ uses.
I will send them a suggestion they sign up here.
I have no idea, it is a required field too, they have probably never heard of anything else.
Looking at a local recruitment agency they ask where did I hear about them the choices are as follows
Seems they need to update their list as it is now 2023, Facebook is for elderly people anyway, Twitter does not exist, no one uses Yahoo (I thought that went the way of the dodo over a decade ago) Goggle is spyware and Bing is microsoft garbage.
Oh well, maybe they will join fedi one day.
