What is truly stupid about SELLING vaccines is that a major benefit of vaccination is to the OTHER people around you. It is a classic example of a PUBLIC good.

They should be free.
We can afford to do that.
We can afford to make most medical care free.

We're choosing not to, and for dumb, self-destructive reasons.

NEW: This is the device that confused and concerned attendees at @defcon by triggering pop ups on their iPhones.

The researcher who created it explained how it works, and what are the risks iPhone users face when these spoofed messages pop up.

Okay, Fediverse academics. This spring, I'm teaching a class called "Gender and Technology, Gender as Technology" in Harvard's Women, Gender and Sexuality program.

If you teach a related class, I'd love your syllabus, and regardless, I'd love your recommendations for work that you love that would be good for undergrads.

Please boost for reach! Class description below.

Academics, I beg you. Please put copies of your published papers on your website, arxiv, whatever. Not only because it's great for the broader world beyond academia (who can't get behind paywalls at all) but it just took me 15 minutes to try to figure out how to log in to some particular database to get a copy of a paper. I don't even like the 3 minutes it takes to log into the ACM DL versus copying a title into google. Follow copyright rules but you can almost always post SOMETHING somewhere.

Great stuff and best of luck with his efforts lets hope he raises lots of money.

Amazon to customers -- and antitrust officials: Up yours.

This kind of arrogance has worked for a long time for big tech. Let's hope the regulators and law enforcement come down on this kind of thing, hard.

Did you see this piece in the Guardian? Senior managers at Vice apparently blocked a story about how the Saudi government helps families harass and threaten transgender Saudis living overseas. Vice now gets a lot of Saudi money, and it seems like the editorial independence of their news team was part of the deal.

The way I see this is that the problem with executing the 9/11 terrorists is that you risk making them Martys, If goes wrong and they survive, they will claim it cements a narrative that Allah has protected them from the evil infidels.

In Lord of the rings, I think it is Éowyn says she does not fear death, she fears a cage and to be locled up until old agve removes all chance of glory. So perhaps keeping these people locked up is the more logical thing to do.

If you execute, then their place of burial will become a shrine and a calling card to rise up further against the west.

At the Donald trump look a like contest, attendees compete to see who can crawl to the white house the fastest.

You don’t need to crawl before you walk – at least according to the CDC.

It has eliminated crawling from the list of major developmental milestones it tells parents and caregivers to watch out for.

On the subject of Muppets, who can we compare these two idiots too.

1. Statler and Waldorf
2. Bert and Earnie
3. Count and Grouch
4. Bunsen and beaker

I think Trump case judge should be compared to Miss Piggy, as with Miss Piggy who would abruptly put kermit in his place, sometimes violent when he feel in love with a female gust star or similar. This judge is equally no nonsense, and lays down the law and makes sure Trump does not forget WHO is in charge.

Yes I agree, I think what was proposed back then was to give farmers the equipment they need, we can do that now, ask what they NEED and then get donations of that equipment to send over.

Kinda like in crisis situations we have storage of shelters, food, water, etc that can be flown out to disaster zones (including Maui for example) and get help on the ground. But yes, the help needs to be local. I think oxfam et al do have people on the ground in those communities and recruit locally so help is sensitive to the needs, cultures of the people being helped.
