Today in “The Fastest Way To Die” news:
People buying AI written mushroom field guides which is incredibly dangerous.
I can’t believe this has to be said.

Instead, why not invest irl Mycology books? You know, written by people who spent years learning how to identify the HIGHLY LETHAL Death cap from several non toxic edible species. Or ask a friend with foraging experience to take you. Don’t risk it.

@zleap Even if I could afford to buy all the books my kids want to read (my son is at 240 and counting this year, so I'd be broke quickly), it's not just about me. It's also about my neighbour Patricia, who is a single mom just trying to make ends meet. Her son Jeremy is 13 and is figuring out that he might not be straight. Jeremy needs a place where he can go that's safe for him to explore what's going on in his life whether his mom knows or not. Conservatives want to take that away from him.

@ianhecht

Good point, this shouod not be happening in the worlds largest economy and what is mean to be a place of freedom and democracy.

@shoq

So the people who can afford this will be the rich, such as the oil criminals, who are making money and polluting our planet.

They can afford to be able to live longer in order to keep their empires alive, but live in buildings protected from the climate chaos they are causing.

@lizbrowne

Indeed, I agree, I have bought items such as a multitool to get in to this sort of packaging, only to find the multitool is actually in the very same type of packaging. So we can't win.

@ianhecht

Can schools control what you have on your own home bookshelf ?

Hey conservatives! You are not the only parents. I *want* my kids to read controversial & banned books. I want them to get up close & personal with experiences outside their own WASPy middle-class upbringing. I want them to be uncomfortable & make up their own minds.

So tell your own kids what they can read, but hands off the school library, and hands off the public library, or you infringe on *my* parents rights to raise educated, empathetic kids.

Meanwhile it seems Ukrainian kids are going back to schools which are in the firing line of Russian Missiles.

@gratefuldread

People need to know which schools are affected so they can plan accordingly.

@KaraLG84

What experience do people have with the OCR feature on here. This is meant to scan an image and exact the text element to help with alt text.

Is there a specific file type this works with? I still can't get it to work.

Never in my life would I expected a cybersecurity issue (at least not a non-food safety issue) to result in a food recall

Add this to your risk assessments

@aral

There must have been a huge shift in apple policies if they are also embracing right to repair and making things easier to fix.

@gratefuldread

We have been discussing this on here for months, including book bans and outing people who are LGBTQ+. Have these voters only 'JUST' noticed or do they only really take interest in policy in the run up to elections?

All those loudmouths who claim weather events are God’s wrath against sinners sure have been quiet about that tree literally falling on Ron DeSantis’ house.
