i just deleted my X-formerly-known-as-twitter-account this morning! it's like the beginning of a new life.

speaking of life (and death), i just had a short essay, "Life is Death is Life," published in the Amherst College Press volume "Deep Horizons: A Multisensory Archive of Ecological Affects and Prospects." It's a reflection on the idea of a good death vs. a bad death in relation to #COVID-19, and other instances in which certain populations suffer disproportionately. lnkd.in/gjWUGk-V

I am not too convinced a ban will work. Can we not hold the owners accountable, and if they fail to keep their animal under control they will face prison / lawsuit if it injures or kills someone.

If a child under a certain age is left alone or is wandering the street alone then the parenting is called in to question.

@georgetakei

Rather than telling Trump NOT to abuse the judge of a trial, people should TELL him to do so, that way, as he does the opposite to what he is told, compliance will result in him not insulting the judge.

re: Bullying

You hear too often about kids committing suicide from bullying. I wonder if this happened at the same rate in the 1950s and you just didnt hear about it because no internet?

Im assuming it didnt happen; at least, not at current rates.

So, why?

Schools added "zero tolerance" policies. In reality, these policies are similar to the policies of current leftist prosecutors, wherein they are more apt to come down harshly on someone for trying to do the right thing in a bad situation, than they are to go after actual bad actors.

Public school policies toward bullying are similar. The schools dont aggressively punish bad actors. They do punish everyone together if you fight back against a bully per the "zero tolerance" policies.

The result?

In the past, bullies were like wolves in a forest. Nobody liked it, but they are there, and your choice is fight or flight.

Now, they are still wolves in a forest, but if you fight, the forest ranger will come down on you and you'll be in just as much (or more) trouble than the wolf. In schools, there was a kind of Wild West code of Justice, and if you could hit the bully back, everyone knew they deserved it.

Now the system turns a blind eye until you are pushed to your limit and fight back, and then the same system comes down agaisnt you with prejudice for your pursuit of Justice.

I imagine this is what the kids are finding unbearable.

@paulsutton

Can anyone look this over for me please and tell me if I am on the right track.

Thanks. any help appreciated.

@verdantsquare

For BP problematic conduct is holding on to the idea that we need oil and gas, we should be developing alternatives or dumping what we can't replace.

This is 2023,

You need to be careful when buying stuff and be able to add up not only by number of say tins of beans in a pack but take in to account weight and other data to work out if something is cheaper or just to go with the non offer product.

Musk is a total idiot, as is this person who is now mean to be CEO.., she clearly has morals / ethics from the gutter too.

@Fickle_Filly

Given some of the parking in Torbay you would need a good few of em, some people seem to think you park OVER a line between two spaces.

They are either too lazy to move out and back in again or just too stupid.

Perhaps both.

But I share your frustration, it hardly takes a huge amount of time to move out and in to a space and straighten up.

Kind of out of an character photo, but I was riding this escalator and thought it looked kind of cool so here we are.

With the right OS / tools these small computers can still have a life and be really useful

Even more so if you don't need a cumbersome graphical interface.

@zleap @Linux_Is_Best
Right. I haven't been using it, but I've got a little eeePC 701 in a closet somewhere. That's 32 bits, and it'd be fun to resurrect it as a little handheld using Linux sometime...
